MY VISION: Life's A Blur

I've been shortsighted since about age 11 or so... I'm not even sure. It seems like forever that much is for certain. My eyes ultimately stabilized during my early 20s and haven't changed a bit since. For the last 15 years my eyes have consistently clocked in at a prescription of -4 and -4.25 diopters of myopia respectively plus a barely noticeable 0.25 astigmatism for both. That's really not too bad considering that my sister ended up around -10 and some people even get into very high values like -25 or -30. Anyhow, so I've been fairly lucky overall but it's still an annoyance.
As the years are passing I'm finding myself hating having to wear glasses more and more because even the best ones, as carefully adjusted as they may be, always feel to me like they're distorting my vision and straining my eyes. There's nothing I look forward to as much as taking off my glasses after a day's work. I'd wear contacts to work but my eyes tend to be too dry and even the best lenses start feeling uncomfortable after an hour or so. Not to mention that I live around Los Angeles where even the most minuscule traces of humidity left in the already arid desert air are being instantly obliterated by the ever present air conditioning.
Besides that I've seen way too many pictures of the eye surface damage done by regularly wearing contacts. Yikes!
Unfortunately I'm forced to wear contacts regularly because I practice Kung Fu on an almost daily basis and (suprise!) wearing glasses to a martial arts class just isn't a very good idea... I'm looking forward to a day when I won't be bothered by dried out lenses in my eyes after an hours worth of training.
To be free of these crutches has been a dream of mine for many years now.
I can't wait to go and swim in the ocean without being either semi-blind or forced to wear contacts and goggles!
